What started as a personal journey of a doctor turned patient morphed into a way to share what’s universal in dealing with cancer, in my case a nasty leukemia (CLL), a failed transplant and a successful clinical trial. The telling of my journey has become a journey to teach about CLL, related blood issues and all cancers. Please visit our new website http://cllsociety.org for the latest news and information. Happy to see that Brian the Dragon Slayer is back on line. Sorry you have to go back into battle so soon, but I'm sure you have a winning battle plan!
EVERYTHING WILL BE FINE IN THE END!!!!!!!!
Hi. I saw your post on the BMT-TALK message board. I read some of your blog.
My son had low platelets for Wiskott-Aldirch Syndrome (WAS). He had a BMT with unrelated 10/10 donor. It worked but he has chronic skin GVHD. We considered removing his spleen instead of doing the BMT. Removing the spleen would have cured his platelet problem (but not the immune problems that often come with WAS). We were afraid that removing the spleen would have put him at more risk later on if we had to do a BMT.
It's my understanding that you removed your spleen before your BMT?
Our doctors would not transfuse with platelets unless they were 5,000 or less. Why are they transfusing you at 117,000?
I hope you get well soon.
